Welcome to my personal profile! I’m Rui Rua, and I’m a Postdoctoral Researcher at NYU Abu Dhabi. I characterize myself as an individual of innovation and unwavering diligence, underpinned by a resolute spirit of initiative. I identify as both a creator and an achiever, consistently driven to realize proofs-of-concept applications and delve deeply into emerging trends and technologies.

As a scientist, my primary focus is on advancing and refining software development and maintenance methodologies. My main objective is to generate knowledge that enhances software products and their source code through the use of automated software analysis techniques.

Latest news (Last Update: March ‘26)

Feb 2026: Our research paper titled “Magnifying Inefficiency: How LLMs Amplify Performance Anti-Patterns in Mobile Development” was accepted at the Journal Ahead Workshop (JAWs) 2026, co-located with ICSE ’26, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The paper was also invited for an extended version submission to the renowned ACM TOSEM journal.

Dec 2025: Our research paper titled “InstruMate: A Systematic Framework for Assessing Android App Repackaging Resilience” was accepted at SANER ’26, to be held in Limassol, Cyprus.

Nov 2025: I had the pleasure of participating in the international conference ASE 2025, where I was able to share and gain knowledge through numerous discussions with the vibrant software engineering community.

Sept 2025: Our research paper titled “BuilDroid: A Self-Correcting LLM Agent for Automated Android Builds” was accepted at ASE ’25, to be held in Seoul, South Korea.

Aug 2025: I had the pleasure of serving as a member of the examination committee for the master’s qualification and thesis defense of Leandro Oliveira at the University of Brasília (UnB). I wish the candidate all the best in his future endeavors.

I’m currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at NYU Abu Dhabi, where I’m a member of the SANAD (Software Analysis and Developer Support) Lab. I’m also working as an external researcher at HASLab/INESC TEC.
